Rules Specific to Match Poker Online

In order to earn classification as a Sport, the creators of Match Poker had to find ways to allow players to be compared on their play in the same seat as their opponents. Many of the rules below serve to achieve that goal without compromising on the core of Texas Hold’em poker.

Players’ stacks reset to 1,000 at the beginning of every hand. Their performance on previous hands, however, is still carried forward in the form of their score. This rule can be subject to penalties imposed for breaches of other rules.

This rule was introduced into the app with the launch of Match Poker Online, February 15, 2022.

In games of Battle Royale, or other gametypes strictly denoted as ‘Elimination’, players may be progressively eliminated based on their position in the match ladder. These eliminations are to be stipulated before play of the first hand is completed.

Players who satisfy all of the following criteria will be deemed to have ‘hit the rail’, and will incur a penalty:

1. Player went all-in (whether by raise or call),
2. Pre-flop,
3. With poor cards,
4. And lost the hand

The penalty shall be that they are forced to sit out for a hand. Repeatedly ‘hitting the rail’ may result in the player being forcibly sat out for multiple hands at a time.

Currently, the list of hands we deem not to satisfy criterion 3 is below. Players cannot ‘hit the rail’ if they do so with the following hole cards:

• AA
• KK
• QQ
• JJ
• TT
• AK (suited or unsuited)
• AQ (suited or unsuited)
• AJ (suited or unsuited)
• KQ (suited or unsuited)

This rule was introduced into the app on May 14, 2023, in response to players going all-in, pre-flop, with unreasonable cards too often. This rule was deemed necessary as it removed the skill involved in Match Poker Online.
